A pocket of new duplexes proposed near the latest leg of the BeltLine’s Westside Trail has gone back into the oven—and come out with more height and car garages.
Last summer, developers filed plans for a dozen duplex buildings, or 24 homes total, in Howell Station on a block fronting West Marietta Street, just east of the BeltLine.
Incorporating brick and metal cladding, the relatively minimalist residences would replace a long-vacant row of dilapidated buildings and empty lots, near the corner of West Marietta Street and Longley Avenue.

Previous plans showed two rows of six buildings situated around the block, with a pervious driveway and parking spaces—but no garages, and no covered parking—in between. That’s changed. As has the size of each building.
More recent drawings, as compiled by Atlanta-based Gotsch Studio, indicate that each duplex will have base levels with one-car garages, foyers, and offices. Above that would be the main living level, and third floors would see two bedrooms (the only options in the home for when nature calls).
Average square footages (1,353) have increased by about 220 square feet.

The five parcels in question are owned by an LLC called WPCS. Paces Ferry Builders and B+C Studio landscape architects are listed in permitting records as also being involved.
The duplexes would continue a recent surge of investment in the West Marietta Street corridor, due west of Midtown. Blocks on either side of the site could be transformed with new housing in coming years.
One block to the west, plans emerged last year for an apartment-townhome combo that would bring more than 350 homes where a church and its parking lots exist today. Word from the neighborhood, however, is that the proposal has encountered significant pushback over density concerns, and the church property has yet to sell.
Closer to Midtown, the QTS Data Centers expansion project calls for roughly 400 stacked multifamily units and townhomes to eventually be built along West Marietta Street, too.
A few blocks farther east, meanwhile, the area’s first new condo tower—the glassy, 22-story Seven88 West Midtown—is ramping up efforts to sell what’s left of its 279 units on the same street.
