From a field of 64 worthy competitors across metro Atlanta, the place with a motto “new city, old-fashioned town” has emerged victorious in 2025!
After six intense rounds, upsets galore, and nearly 8,000 votes cast, Tucker has officially won the Golden Urby Chalice of Champions trophy for 2025—and for the first time in history.
Known for its charming Main Street vibes, historic buildings, and eclectic lineup of eats and local businesses (though we do miss Hot Betty’s), Tucker is situated just outside Interstate 285’s northeast perimeter (think: roughly 2 p.m. on the I-285 clockface). Its roots as a town date to the early 1900s, but following a streetscape overhaul of its downtown commercial center, Tucker was incorporated as a city in 2016.
The population (roughly 37,000 now) has steadily climbed over the past decade and a half, as the number of retail businesses exploded by 70 percent in the five years between 2018 and 2023, as one metric of Tucker’s success. The city counts more than 20 annual events, including the beloved Tucker Day in May.
In its path to everlasting 2025 (Sub)urban Smackdown glory, Tucker stood up and stormed through a tough bracket, bouncing out Virginia-Highland, Summerhill, two-time champ West End, sister city Stone Mountain, and past champion Hapeville.
In the Championship match, Tucker trounced Grant Park this week, capturing 70 percent of votes.
So here's permission to keep on bragging, Tucker, all year long ...
