A hotel project in the heart of Gwinnett County’s seat is opening today, with hopes of lifting up Lawrenceville’s downtown as more of a meetings and leisure destination in the Southeast. 

The Lawrence Hotel, a 120-room Hilton Tapestry Collection property, has started welcoming guests and opened two drinking and dining options onsite. Located at 120 E. Crogan St., The Lawrence is considered the “first-ever upscale, boutique, full-service hotel” in the downtown area, per project officials. Rates currently start at $156 per night. 

Following several years of construction, the brick-clad lodge and its base parking deck have replaced a large parking lot and two commercial structures, including a formerly grand home, across a full city block. 

Two onsite food-and-beverage offerings include open-air cocktail bar and lounge Old Nick’s and the property’s signature restaurant, a Mediterranean-meets-Southern concept called Bellfire.

Elsewhere at the NorthPointe Hospitality Management and Development project is more than 6,000 square feet of event space. 

The hotel continues significant investment in recent years around Gwinnett County’s growing and centralized county seat, home to roughly 33,000 residents and counting, with more planned around the corner. 

Up the street from the hotel, the $45-million Lawrenceville Performing Arts Center, home of the Aurora Theatre, debuted in 2021. Elsewhere, several large-scale residential and mixed-use ventures—including the 600-plus-unit SouthLawn project—have taken shape within blocks of downtown Lawrenceville in recent years, helping grow the historic section’s retail and food-and-beverage scene.

Hotel officials have cited Georgia Gwinnett College and Northside Hospital Gwinnett as other nearby attractions in the area.
