A large corner lot in Cabbagetown that’s been vacant for years could come to life with new uses soon, though plans aren’t as pedestrian-centric as some observers would like.
Officials with Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta’s main public hospital and trauma center, are planning to branch out urgent-care services to a site at 724/736 Memorial Drive SE, near Cabbagetown’s eastern border with Reynoldstown.
Cummin Landscape Supply had long operated on the corner lot but vacated the property about four years ago. It’s been vacant and idle since.
Renderings and site plans for the proposal, Grady Estoria Urgent Care, were brought before the Cabbagetown Neighborhood Improvement Association for its general meeting this month.

Site plans indicate the majority of Grady’s land use would be devoted to surface parking, totaling 42 spaces, which drivers would access from Memorial Drive. Numerous new trees and landscape additions for screening are also in the works.
According to Fulton County property records, the urgent care facility would span 5,973 square feet.
Not all urbanists in the vicinity are enthused by Grady’s plans, with one deploying the phrase “hot garbage” as a knock against new surface parking a few blocks from the Atlanta Beltline in the densifying corridor.
Grady Emergency Medical Services operates an academy for EMT, AEMT, and paramedic training on a large lot immediately north of the property in question. That lot is mostly surface parking, too.
Both properties, totaling about 4 acres, are owned by an LTD called Coosa Valley Investment, records show.

Grady Health System Department of Facilities Development is soliciting proposal for contractors to build the Cabbagetown project now. All that’s on the site today is a shed structure and some paving, according to property records.
Another urgent care clinic, AllCare Primary & Immediate Care, operates less than a block to the east of the site in question, at the base of the 764 Memorial condo building.
