This installment of Crane Watch takes us to a corner site on Midtown’s signature street, just south of Buckhead.
That’s where Balfour Beatty and development partners have begun vertical construction on a campus expansion at The Temple, considered Atlanta’s most diverse and oldest synagogue, with roots dating back 1867.
The 1589 Peachtree St. NE site in question is at the southeast corner of the Buford Spring Connector and Peachtree Street.
The Temple’s plans call for a four-story, 30,000-square-foot early learning center expansion with a courtyard. Other additions will include an outdoor play area, new trees near Peachtree Street, and a tall fence, according to Midtown Alliance.

Building permit filings indicate the early learning center will connect with the existing Rosenberg Building at the northwest property boundary.
The Temple, a Reform Jewish congregation, is considered one of American Judaism’s most historic religious institutions, with more than 4,500 members today.
