Multi-use trail projects abound across ITP Atlanta right now, but this woodsy section through Underwood Hills is shaping up to be unique.
As is visible along Chattahoochee Avenue, immediately west of mixed-use warehouse district The Works, the Silver Comet Connector Segment 3 project is bringing an elevated trail through the woods with a system of boardwalks over Woodall Creek right now.
It’s part of the larger effort to link downtown Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park to Cobb County’s Silver Comet Trail, by way of now-finished Beltline sections.
The elevated section in question is part of the final two missing intown links for the SCC project, called Segments 2 and 3, that will stretch between The Works on Chattahoochee Avenue up to Marietta Boulevard. (The first new segment of SCC in Atlanta opened last year; that’s the .7-mile Woodall Rail Trail, which branches off the Beltline’s Westside Trail, wends through some woods, and ends at The Works.)

When asked for a Segment 3 construction update this week, officials with project leaders (and funders) PATH Foundation sent word that trespassing on SCC construction sites is strictly forbidden.
“We know everyone is eager—as much as we are, too—to have the Silver Comet Connector completed,” Greta deMayo, PATH Foundation executive director, wrote via email. “Once PATH’s current construction is completed, in August 2027, the trails we have built through our partnerships over the past 35 years in metro Atlanta and the State of Georgia will allow continuous connectivity from Anniston, Ala. all the way to Stone Mountain.”
But first things first. Find more context and a closer look at scenic Segment 3 (no trespassing required) in the gallery above.
