The wave of apartments replacing what used to be Turner Field parking lots continues to wash over Summerhill.

In the 700 block of Hank Aaron Drive, Trammell Crow Residential’s latest Alexan-branded development has partially topped out, claiming about 3.6 acres of former parking spaces and empty lots.

Alexan Summerhill, as it’s called, is rising with 325 units in five stories in the shadow of Georgia State University football’s Center Parc Stadium. The site is also bordered by well over 100 new and under-construction townhomes in at least three separate developments.

The apartments will also overlook the shuttered Fanplex facility that flopped as an arcade and mini-golf attraction next to Turner Field. The entertainment complex opened in 2002, hemorrhaged money, and was shut down about two years later. It sits idle today.

According to building permits, Alexan Summerhill will span about 280,000 square feet with 424 parking spaces.

An assemblage of numerous parcels on the block sold in November for $7.6 million, according to Fulton County property records.

Dallas-based Trammell Crow, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, is also the company behind Alexan EAV, Alexan Old Fourth Ward, Alexan Buckhead Village, Alexan on 8th in Midtown, among other rental hubs.

Local developments Alexan on Krog, Alexan Glenwood, Alexan Eight West, Alexan Vinings, and Alexan 1133 in Decatur, among others, have all been sold to other companies.

The Summerhill complex will join more than 500 apartments opened on the north side of the stadium since 2019 in the Aspen Heights (220 units) and 565 Hank (306) projects.

We’ve reached out to Trammell Crow reps for information on the project’s timeline, apartment sizes and rents, and details on affordable housing options, if available. We’ll update this story should additional info come.
