One of the best aspects of a freshly completed Atlanta Beltline trail section is the new perspectives it lends across a city you may have known for years, or decades.
That’s certainly true of the Beltline’s Northwest Trail—Segment 5, a .7-mile route that takes the multi-use loop from the finished Westside Trail toward Buckhead.
Yes, this hilly, winding Beltline section has officially been open in Blandtown since the day before Halloween (we’ve been too enthused on previous visits to stop and document), so it’s high time for a photo essay for the uninitiated. Segment 5 brought instant off-street connectivity to several areas in the neighborhood, across what used to be empty or underused parcels.
The Northwest Trail sections in question, as shown in this photo essay, in context of the 22-mile Beltline loop. Atlanta Beltline Inc.
Just beyond the new trail’s easternmost tip, land-clearing and construction is barreling ahead on the next Beltline build in the area: Segment 4A. That section broke ground three months ago and will bring this paved route for non-drivers over a new bridge and around a city reservoir to Howell Mill Road.
Head up to the gallery for a photo tour and breakdown of all the above, no pedaling required.
