For the second time in as many months, a newer mixed-use project in a growing section of Atlanta between Georgia Tech and the Howell Mill Road corridor is making substantial economic news.

Three weeks after opening Lidl’s “first walkable intown ATL location” at its base level, the Interlock district’s second phase has landed the U.S. headquarters of AMX Logistics, an asset trucking and third-party logistics company, as deal brokers Foundry Commercial announced today.

AMX will claim more 20,200 square feet at the Class-A Interlock Tower at Northside portion of the project as part of a sublease for its new Atlanta 3PL headquarters.

The move is expected to generate more than 200 new jobs—as opposed to relocations—for the city by the end of next year, officials said today.

The employment bump will come in an area that's recently grappled with a scourge of restaurant closures—and community-backed initiatives to potentially help spark a turnaround.

“This move is not only a major commitment to Atlanta, but specifically the West Midtown submarket,” Phil Costabile, Foundry Commercial senior vice president, said in a statement.

Developer SJC Ventures broke ground on Interlock’s second phase in 2021, consuming 4 and ½ acres where Northside Drive meets 11th and Ethel streets.

Jeff DeHart, an SJC principal, called Interlock Tower’s unique proximity to Georgia Tech across the street “a big draw” for the rapidly scaling logistics company, providing “the unique opportunity to recruit and access all of the technology being developed on campus.”

AMX’s new headquarters will be a hub for supporting corporate growth and regional operations, with a goal of tapping Atlanta’s talent pool and strategic positioning within the Southeastern U.S. logistics corridor, per officials.

“[We’re] growing quickly, and this location positions us to serve our clients and partners even better,” said Collins White, AMX’s president. “We were drawn to Interlock Tower’s connectivity, energy, and visibility.”

In addition to Lidl, tenants that have opened at Interlock’s second section include Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Five Guys, Alle Spa, Salon Lofts, Eleven Nail Bar, GoodVets, rooftop Wagyu House restaurant, and piano bar Pinky Promise Champagne Bar.

Other office tenants include marketing firm Trevelino/Keller and data management firm Nexus Cognitive.
