Come Monday, the Atlanta airport’s years-long, ongoing expansion efforts will include thousands of new parking spaces designed to be walkable to a main domestic terminal.
According to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials, the new South Red Deck is scheduled to open June 1 near the South Terminal, which is primarily used as a hub for Delta Air Lines domestic flights. The project topped out in August.
The new deck—described as a “serious upgrade” in a recent announcement—includes more than 7,000 additional parking spaces for the world’s busiest airport.
The deck was “built with modern technology, expanded capacity, and the traveler experience in mind,” airport officials have said.
To that end, features of the deck include: license-plate readers for ticketless entry and exit; more than 100 electric-vehicle charging stations; premium parking options; direct terminal access; and what’s described as smart-parking technology.

The project is a joint venture between Holder Construction, Austin Commercial, C.D. Moody Construction Company, and Bryson Constructors.
“Getting from your car to check-in is about to be a whole lot smoother!” reads the Sunday announcement.
