On a temperate October night, Cosm Atlanta’s tagline “Don’t see IT alone” could qualify as sage advice.

Four months after Cosm opened during the NBA Finals, schedules finally allowed for a thorough exploration of the 70,000-square-foot venue that’s emerged as a cornerstone of Centennial Yards’ Entertainment District and a unique addition to downtown’s portfolio of attractions.

But word to the wise: Taking preteens to a ghastly Stephen King tale inside an immersive, shared-reality dome with 12K+ LED visuals and razor-sharp sound could be ill-advised. (Speaking from experience.)

The three-level venue at 85 Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW is the third to open in the U.S., following locations in Los Angeles and near Dallas. Another has since opened in Detroit, and a fifth in Cleveland is slated to debut next year.

Along with marquee sporting events, Cosm productions include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Matrix, Shrek, and Cirque du Soleil’s show “O.”

Other components include a section with large LED screens called “The Hall” that's billed as the ultimate gameday sports bar, plus a swanky rooftop venue dubbed “The Deck” with downtown stadium views. Project officials have said the Atlanta venue—part of a flurry of recent construction activity at the 50-acre, $5-billion megaproject, including the district’s second topped-out hotel—expands on the foundational design of those in California and Texas while incorporating character that reflects Centennial Yards and the city at large.

It's a sleek facility and refined experience overall, with technology that gave grip-your-seat flashbacks of being at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
