Dozens of new housing options are bound for one of the last sizable, vacant parcels on the City of East Point’s main drag.
According to the East Point Economic Development Department, a new mixed-use hub planned for 2155 Main St. called “Libertad East Point” was recently picked by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a coveted 2026 Housing Tax Credit award.
Missouri-based developer Vecino Group has described the vacant 1.7-acre site as one of the last developable parcels left on the north side of downtown East Point. It’s immediately south of Arthur B. Jr. Parkway near a BP gas station on Main Street, a couple of blocks south of MARTA’s Lakewood-Fort McPherson station.
Libertad East Point plans call for street-level commercial space and 57 new apartments downtown, with 45 of those reserved for income-qualified households. The federal and matching state tax credits are expected to generate roughly $17.1 million in private investment onsite, per city officials.
Officials with East Point’s Georgia Initiative for Community Housing group picked the Libertad project following a “competitive review” and endorsement from city council.
The developer “has committed to Main Street-facing design, commercial-ready ground floor space, and continued community engagement as the project moves forward,” per a city announcement.

According to a Vecino Group presentation to East Point City Council in April, the apartments would aim for “wide-ranging affordability” and be reserved for residents earning between 30 and 120 percent of the Area Median Income (that’s between $24,000 and $96,000 annually for a one-person household). Tentative renderings were also presented at that time.
Vecino Group and East Point officials didn’t respond this week to requests for information on a construction timeline or the most recent project visuals.
Eventually, depending on market conditions, a second phase could take shape next to the 57 units planned for Libertad East Point today, as Vecino Group project leaders told city officials in April.

Libertad is the developer’s family-oriented development brand. In East Point, Vecino Group also partnered with the city’s housing authority on the $24-million renovation of affordable housing project Aya Tower.
Elsewhere in ITP Atlanta, Vecino Group is a partner in the rising, 219-unit Trinity Central Flats project near Atlanta City Hall.
Completed Vecino projects in Atlanta include a partnership with homegrown rapper and mogul T.I., the 143-unit affordable housing community Intrada Westside in Bankhead. Twenty-five of those apartments are reserved for formerly homeless residents under Atlanta Housing’s HomeFlex‑HAVEN program.
