Near airport, project delivers 450 homes a year ahead of schedule

An affordable housing initiative has delivered nearly 450 new living options at a long-vacant site in Southwest Atlanta’s Greenbriar neighborhood, according to project officials. 

The two-pronged residential development—The Flats and Villas at Stone Hogan—marks the latest addition of new housing in the area around Greenbriar Mall, northwest of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport near Interstate 285. 

According to project leaders Atlanta Housing, the 448-apartment Stone Hogan community delivered nearly a year ahead of schedule. Its ribbon-cutting and grand opening was held Friday. 

The complex is broken down into two components: The Villas at Stone Hogan, a 192-unit senior, independent living option for residents over age 55; and The Flats at Stone Hogan, a 256-unit multifamily section with one to three-bedroom apartments aimed at families with children. 

Both gated Stone Hogan communities offer residents wraparound services meant to boost residents’ educational, social, and emotional wellbeing, per project leaders. 

Current, income-restricted rents at The Villas start at $1,104 monthly (one bedroom and one bathroom in 704 square feet), while The Flat start from $1,029 monthly (two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,150 square feet). 

Unique aspects of the multi-building complex include greenspaces and pedestrian and bicycle trails that weave into nearby parks, with a goal of blending “seamlessly into the Greenbriar neighborhood [while] fostering community connection and overall well-being,” according to a grand-opening announcement. 

Atlanta Housing partnered on the Stone Hogan project with Wilhoit Properties, Summit Contracting Group, and Zimmerman Properties & Construction. 

Plans call for additional partnerships with Emory University, Morehouse College, local healthcare providers, and Atlanta nonprofit Star-C to provide after-school programs, free health screenings, nutrition classes, and community gardens, per officials.
