Downtown Atlanta is about to get Messi. And England. Together.
In anticipation of “heavy pedestrian traffic at Centennial Olympic Park,” MARTA announced today it's shutting down Atlanta Streetcar service, which provides a 2.7-mile loop around downtown, until the city’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup match concludes.
The streetcar system closure began at 10 a.m. today and will run through Wednesday, according to MARTA.
Meanwhile, according to the Atlanta Department of Transportation, streets around the perimeter of Atlanta Stadium (that is, Mercedes-Benz Stadium) will be closed to vehicles today and Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. to accommodate FIFA World Cup Semifinal fans.

City officials are asking that all deliveries in the area be made between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday.
“These closures are part of a coordinated public safety and traffic management plan to help everyone navigate downtown safely and efficiently,” noted MARTA officials.
