Atlanta Beltline Inc.’s efforts to weave a trail from neighborhoods near Atlantic Station up into Buckhead have officially kicked off.
Beltline construction officials last week opened an Invitation to Bid that seeks firms qualified to build the remaining section of Northwest Trail—Segment 3. It will link Berkeley Park in the south to Loring Heights, Brookwood, Ardmore, and Collier Hills neighborhoods.
All bids are due March 19.
The one-mile segment, 3B, will start where the trail currently ends at Northside Drive and extend over that busy roadway—via a pedestrian bridge that looks more sophisticated than earlier designs.

Once over Northside Drive, the trail will continue through the Atlanta Technology Center campus and then beneath Interstate 75 at Tanyard Creek.
North of there, it will connect to the completed, 2.9-mile Northside Trail that runs through Tanyard Creek Park
Trail components will include a 14-foot-wide concrete pathway, lighting, security cameras, fiber duct bank installation, stormwater management with an emphasis on green infrastructure, brownfield remediation, and landscape installation in coordination with Trees Atlanta, in addition to other elements, per Beltline officials.
Construction on Segment 3B is scheduled to start sometime this summer, once 2026 FIFA World Cup crowds have left Atlanta.
But don’t expect the quickest build.

According to Beltline officials, the construction timeline will span roughly two and ½ years, putting the trail’s estimated opening around the beginning of 2029.
The entire 22-mile mainline Beltline loop is scheduled to be finished the following year.
So far, according to the Beltline’s tabulations earlier this month, 13.6 miles of mainline trail have opened, along with more than 10 miles of connector trails around the city.
