Replacing what had been a nook of surface parking in West End, the Lee + White district’s “Great Lawn” has opened in time for summer revelry.
The space between Lee + White’s main retail-and-office warehouse complexes was initially intended to house a standalone food hall, but that idea was scrapped a few years ago in favor of a simpler, versatile greenspace.
Today, the lawn serves as a pitstop off the BeltLine’s Westside Trail and conduit between existing breweries, restaurants, and businesses. It counts a stage area, steel beams used as party-light holders, a solar-powered bar, and an array of seating under both mature pine trees and new plantings. On a recent weekend evening, it offered a more serene alternative to lively brewery patios.

It all borders what’s expected to be the BeltLine’s next food hall soon.
Ackerman & Co. and MDH Partners, developers behind the 11-building Lee + White project, have said the food hall component will include 19 vendors, a central bar, and no shortage of Westside Trail access. Developers said in late March they were hopeful individual food hall tenants would start opening sometime in the second quarter this year.
Alongside a growing list of office tenants, the existing roster at so-called “Malt Disney” includes three breweries (Monday Night Garage, Best End, and Wild Heaven), a distillery (ASW), plus Boxcar restaurant, Hop City beer store, Honeysuckle Gelato, Doux South Pickles, and the Westside’s first rock-climbing gym, The Overlook.
