Just in time for summer and one of Atlanta’s most hallowed festival traditions, a solar-powered bar concept is planning to open as a unique pitstop and the latest example of shipping-container reuse along the BeltLine.
Longtime Lee + White tenants Monday Night Brewing and ASW Distillery have partnered on a concept called SolarBar, which is described as an eco-friendly, state-of-the-art, and fully off-the-grid watering hole powered by 10 advanced solar panels.
As designed by Rickman Architecture + Design, the repurposed shipping container and a row of seating options will be placed adjacent to the BeltLine in the gap between warehouse complexes housing Wild Heaven Beer and the forthcoming Lee + White food hall, project reps tell Urbanize Atlanta.

Expect ASW Distillery cocktails and frozen drinks and Monday Night beer selections on draft and in cans. Also included is an interactive recycling system nicknamed the “The Crusher” that will allow guests to smash and discard of cans with the push of a button; all cans will go toward a program called Recycle for Good that generates funds for Habitat for Humanity projects around Atlanta, according to project officials.
Weather-permitting, a crane is scheduled to hoist the shipping container into place at 3 p.m. Friday. Project heads expect SolarBar to be fully operational in time for Saturday evening’s return of the BeltLine Lantern Parade to the Westside Trail.
The bar’s VeloSolar panels are designed to harness up to 4,000 watts per hour, storing excess power in a battery back-up system. That will help run a solar-powered phone charging station that BeltLine visitors can use for free.
LED lighting and low-energy appliances are also planned for SolarBar.
“Environmental sustainability and serving our community are two of our biggest priorities, and we'll do both in this unique way,” predicted Joel Iverson, Monday Night Brewing cofounder, in a prepared statement. “[We] can’t wait for BeltLine cruisers to experience the magic of SolarBar soon.”
