More than 15 years since Buckhead’s version of a multipurpose Complete Street started being installed through the heart of office and shopping districts, the project is entering the home stretch toward completion.
Buckhead Community Improvement District officials report that lane closures are expected for the final phase of the Peachtree Road Complete Street project between Piedmont Road and Maple Drive (near a CVS and Brown and Co. Jewelers) for the remainder of this week.
The Buckhead CID project’s goal is to refashion vehicle-centric Peachtree Road into a more inviting and safe place for pedestrians.

Phase three upgrades include wider sidewalks and enhanced crossings, along with improved lighting and landscaping, buried utilities, medians, and granite curbs. (But no striped bike lanes, as earlier phases have). The final segment extends from Maple Drive down to Shadowlawn Avenue.
The project’s initial phase—stretching from Ga. Highway 400 to one block south of Piedmont Road—debuted way back in 2007.
The second segment—from Ga. Highway 400 to Roxboro Road, just north of Phipps Plaza—was completed in 2012.

Lane closures on Peachtree Road are expected to be active this week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Exactly when the road project will be complete has yet to be determined, according to Livable Buckhead.
