In the works since early 2019, Chamblee’s first distillery is gearing up to open this spring, joining a flurry of construction activity in the densifying north ITP city’s downtown core.
The unique concept also features an events space and art gallery—in a former warehouse that’s now described as a work of art itself.
The Distillery of Modern Art, or DoMa, is located in a 15,000-square-foot facility a block off Peachtree Road, Chamblee’s main thoroughfare, between MARTA’s Chamblee and Doraville train stations. Founder Seth Watson teamed with Vickers Design Group to create what’s loftily described as “an experience unlike any other distillery in the world.”
Watson’s goal is to feature local artists of all ages, established and not, in an approachable, stylish format. On the booze front, DoMA is first focusing on distilling gin and vodka—using a 30-foot column still described as the facility’s centerpiece, in addition to other equipment—to be followed by a variety of American whiskeys and liqueurs.
Elsewhere in the building, the 2,800-square-foot Rothko Room is meant to be a versatile event space, the patio can accommodate 50 guests, and the Kandinsky Tasting Room is described as a “beautiful cocktail lounge” worked by “journeyed mixologists.”
DoMA’s spirits will be available for purchase onsite and at retailers around Atlanta, business leaders say. The final phases of construction continue.
We’ve asked for a specific opening date and will post any additional info that comes. For now, find a preview in the gallery above.
